Falcons and Bruins Strong Through November

The Boston Bruins and the Springfield Falcons have held their own thus far. Currently the Springfield Falcons sit Second in the AHL Eastern Conference and the Boston Bruins are currently leading the NHL's Eastern Conference. The Bruins are siting pretty atop the Eastern Conference with 38 points; and the Falcons are siting in Second with 30 points. It is early though, both teams can either take their game to the next level and dominate for a long stretch of time or just fall off a cliff and drop in the standing like a lead balloon.

Red Sox Are 2013 World Champions

I know this is a little late, but I want to congratulate the Boston Red Sox on their 2013 World Series Championship. I feel that after the year that the city of Boston has had from April to now it is only fitting that the Red Sox are World Champions. As I was watching the Red Sox Rolling Rally (World Series Parade) I was surprised and heartfelt after the tribute that Johnny Gomes and Jarrod Saltalamacchia gave when they reached the Finish Line of the Boston Marathon.

Wacha Gets Nod In Game 6

The St. Louis Cardinals have chosen to start Michael Wacha. Wacha is a phenomenal 4-0 in his four Postseason starts. Mind you this is only Wacha's Rookie Year. St. Louis has been amazed by what Wacha brings to the table. He has only allowed 3 runs in all four of his postseason starts. Wacha will be going up against John Lackey. Last time these two men faced off Wacha walked away with the "W". Will we have a repeat of Game 2 or will the Sox come off as the 2013 World Champs.

Wacha Looks for Win Number 4 In Boston

Tonight is Game 2 of the World Series. It should be another pitching duel as Cardinals send Michael Wacha to the mound tonight against the Red Sox own John Lackey. Wacha has had three stellar performances throughout this 2013 postseason. Wacha has not allowed nore than 5 hits and 1 earned run in any of the three previous starts. Wacha's 1 run came off a Pedro Alvarez Home Run in Game 4 of the NLDS. The 5 hits that were allowed in 1 game came in Game 2 of the NLCS against the LA Dodgers. There is also one other accolade that came in the 2013 MLB Postseason and that was the fact that Wacha was named the NLCS MVP, as a rookie.

Crunch Time For Red Sox

So far this postseason, the Boston Red Sox have been a consistent playoff  team to this point in the MLB postseason. The Red Sox survived the ALDS by topping the Tampa Bay Rays in 4 games, winning the series 3-1. To this point in the ALCS the Sox are tied with the Detroit Tigers at 2 games a piece heading into Game 5 tonight in Detroit. You can check your local listings to find the channel and start time. If the Red Sox are able to survive this series against the defending AL Champs, then they will host whoever wins the NLCS between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Los Angeles Dodgers. The last time the Dodgers were in the World Series was back in 1988. In which the Dodgers came out on top 4 games to 1 over Tony LaRussa's Oakland Athletics.

I would like to send a huge congratulations to Chipper Jones who entered the Atlanta Braves Hall Of Fame today. Chipper Jones was a personal favorite of mine. I have a feeling he will be entering the Baseball Hall Of Fame real soon. With the stats that Chipper has he is gonna be a 1st ballot Hall Of Famer. I am 90% sure of that.

Falcons Pick Up Rare 8 Points

The Springfield Falcons pick up a RARE 8 points in less than 48 hours. The Falcons had a double header on Friday, Saturday Night game, and a 3:00 Matinee match. All came out to be wins. The first of the double header on Friday was the completion of February 17th's suspended match versus the Adorondiack Phantoms at 6:00. Then the second half of Friday's double header was a 7:30 match against those very same Phantoms. Saturday was a match against Providence, and Sunday's Matinee match was a rematch from last Sunday's game against the Worcester Sharks, only this time it was at Springfield. The Falcons picked up where Sunday February 17th's game left off where there was 3:42 remaining in the second period, the Falcons would come back to win 3-2 in a shootout. Then went on to win big, 7-2 on Friday's 7:30 matchup. They would go on to beat the Providence Bruins 2-1 in a shootout, and finally to secure the 8 points they would go on to win as well as tie a record for most shutouts by a Falcons goalie, goaltender Curtis McElhinney is now tied with Falcons Star Goaltender Manny Legace with 8 shutouts in a Falcons sweater.

The NHL Is Officially Underway

With 26 of the 30 teams back in action last night the NHL is now officially back in action. With the 13 games last night this would be the moment that many of the players were waiting over 110 days for. Yes the lockout lasted over 110 days. The Primetime game last night was as figured with most people the Chicago Blackhawks facing off against the defending Stanley Cup Champs in the Staples Center. If you ask me the home opener this year is a lot like what happened last season when the Boston Bruins raised their Stanley Cup Banner. Yes both defending champs in their respective season openers lost. The Bruins lost the night of their Home Opener last season, and the Kings lost yesterday afternoon to Chicago, 5-2.

Falcons Restock On Defense

With the NHL Lockout over, and a handful of players to be heading to Columbus, Springfield made a wise choice in begining to restock in areas that were weak last season when they lost Nick Holden, John Moore, Ryan Johansen to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Today the Falcons signed Bryan Helmer to an AHL contract for the rest of the season. Helmer is making a reappearance to Springfield as he was also there in 2003-2004. Helmer has played for seven other AHL teams in his career, the teams he had played for arein order as follows. Albany River Rats (1993-98), Worcester Ice Cats (1998-00), Manitoba Moose (2001-03), Springfield Falcons (2003-04), Grand Rapids Griffins (2004-06), San Antonio Rampage (2006-08), Hershey Bears (2008-10), and Oklahoma City Barons (2010-2012). Helmer has accomplished a big feat, with the fact that he is 40 years old, and in the midst of his 20th season. Helmer is one of only three players to accomplish this feat. Helmer also has three Calder Cup Championships under his belt, 1994-95 with Albany, and back to back in 2008-09 and 2009-10 with the Hershey Bears. Helmer has also got some NHL experience under his belt as well as he played in 146 games with four different NHL teams and tallying up 26 points in those game as well (8 goals, and 18 assists).
