The Springfield Falcons had come into tonight's game having lost 3 of their past 4 games and sitting in 2nd place in the Eastern Conference 5 points behind the Syracuse Crunch. It didn't take long for Springfield to strike first, at 10:13 into the first Ryan Johansen would put one into the back of the Admirals net. A little over 3 minutes later the Falcons would bury another goal making it 2-0 Springfield. With about 5 minutes remaining in the first something amazing had happened in the crowd, a marriage proposal, she ended up saying YES. less than 2 minutes later Springfield had again put one past the Admirals goaltender, after 1 period of play it was 3-0 Springfield. Springfield would tack on another goal early in the second. Norfolk would come out of the locker room heading into the third period with a hole to dig out of. A little over 2 1/2 minutes into the 3rd Norfolk put one past Allen York to end the shutout. That would be all the scoring as the final would come out to a 4-1 Falcons win, closing out 2012 on a good note. 2nd Place in the East, 4th in the entire AHL, with a 4 point lead over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in the Northeast Division.

Falcons Best Shot Is Complete NHL Lockout
By the way the season has played out for Springfield with the NHL Lockout in affect Springfield is off to a phenomenal start this year, they currently sit at 2nd place in the Eastern Conference with a 16-8-2-3 record, 37 points. If it weren't for the NHL Lockout the Falcons would probably be in the cellar of the Eastern Conference. When you look at it from my point of view the Falcons would not have at least 5 key players that are contributing to their success; Cam Atkinson, John Moore, Nick Holden, David Savard, and Thomas Kubalik. Without those players, God only knows where the Falcons would be sitting in the Eastern Conference, because those five players would be playing for the Columbus Blue Jackets right now. With the way I look at it the Falcons can rejoice if there is a complete NHL Lockout especially if they keep up the style of play they have, they could end a 10 year drought of 0 playoff appearances. The last time the Falcons made the playoffs was the 2002-2003 season, where the Falcons made it as far as the Conference Quarterfinals, but ti get to that point they had to complete a Best-Of-3 Series against the 7th Ranked Hartford Wolf Pack. They were eliminated by the Hamilton Bulldogs 3-1.
Whale Topple Falcons
The Springfield Falcons hosted the Connecticut Whale last night at the MassMutual Center. The Whale jumped out of the gates and took an early lead that would be maintained throughout the game. The Falcons would keep putting shots on goal but for 40 minutes they could not find the back of the net. After the same 40 minutes of play it was a 4-0 Connecticut Whale lead. Springfield would score twice in the third to make it a 4-2 game and pull their goalie with 1:32 remaining in the 3rd period. Nothing would happen in that time span. The final would be as it was after Springfield scored last 4-2. As the Falcons close out 2012 they will be hosting the defending Calder Cup Champion Norfolk Admirals tonight at the MassMutual Center at 5:00 pm.

Falcons Fall in Shootout to Monarchs
Springfield came into last nights game in first place in the Eastern Conference and second in the entire AHL, this is the Falcons best start in Franchise history. The Falcons would strike first with a goal less than 10 minutes into the first period. Manchester would then respond with 3 unanswered goals in the first period. The Falcons would respond midway through the second period with a goal to make it a 1 goal game. Then late in the 3rd period the Falcons would score again with only minutes remaining on a goal by Cam Atkinson. That would send the game into overtime. With no goals coming in the overtime period the game would go to a shootout. The Falcons would shoot first, Atkinson was the first shooter, he would not score then Manchester would score with both their first and second shooters, Springfield would not score until Nick Drazenovic scored in the third round of the shootout, Manchester would then miss out on a chance to end the shootout and have to go another round and Manchester would end the game there.

Falcons Accomplish Franchise First
The Springfield Falcons have accomplished a franchise first last night with a 4-2 win over the Wilkes/Barre Scraton Penguins. The Falcons had become 3-0, throughout the Falcons 19 year history Spingfield had never accomplished that feat. Not even when they made it to the Eastern Conference Finals in 1997, where they fell in 7 games to the soon to be champion Hershey Bears. Springfield looks to keep up the pace when they take on the Providence Bruins at the MassMutual Canter tonight, puck drops at 7:05 pm ET.

UMass Falls To 0-4 In FBS Play
UMass gets handed another loss and is dropped 27-16 against University of Miami Ohio and falls to 0-4 in their first year of FBS play. This was also their first conference game of the year. The scoring was alternated the entire game first Miami Ohio, then UMass, then Miami Ohio, then UMass and so on. Miami scored only touchdowns and missed a two point conversion, whereas UMass had a field goal and 2 touchdowns with a missed extra point. This is certainly not how UMass wanted to start the 2012 NCAA football campaign.

UMass Crushed By Michigan
UMass was taken to "THE BIG HOUSE" literally, today was a game which I had a feeling UMass would lose. However The final score is in a way a return of the favor after last year, where Michigan held on to a slim win over a very similar UMass team, today the final was 63-13. Now UMass is 0-3 in their first year of FBS play.

UMass Minutemen Enter FBS 0-2
The Umass Minutemen are now 0-2 in their first year in the FBS, MAC Division. Until this year the Minutemen were in a part of college football called the FCS, which is a step down from the big time FBS. the trasition was made official during last season. UMass was handed another crushing loss, this time by Indiana. To say the least in this game the Minutemen managed to squeeze in a touchdown where as against the UConn Huskies in the season opener they could barly make it past mid-field. UConn had defeated UMass 37-0, yesterday UMass lost by a score of 45-6, UMass managed to score the TD in the first quarter. however they could not convert on the point after attempt, and would not score another point for the rest of the game.

Blues Fall in 4-0 Sweep
Earlier today the St Louis Blues did battle in game 4 against the Los Angeles Kings. the game was almost the Blues worst nightmare. LA lead off the scoring early in the first period, the Blues would fight back. With a goal by Kevin Shattenkirk midway through the first the game would be tied 1-1. The Kings weren't finished yet though, late in the first Kings captain Dustin Brown would put one by Brian Elliott to make it 2-1. Finally the Kings would bury a shot into an empty net to finish it off and make the final 3-1.

Blues Need Spark
The St Louis Blues are currently down 3-0 to the Los Angeles Kings with game 4 on Sunday at 3:00 pm ET. The Blues are practically in desperation mode after dropping game 3, 4-2. According to Ken Hitchcock the Blues are giving roughly 85% effort whereas the LA Kings are giving 110% effort. With another two day break between games the Blues need to find a way to get a spark going and force a game 5 in St Louis or else their season is over.

Blues Drop Game 1
The St Louis Blues faced the Los Angeles Kings in the Western Conference Semi-Finals, Game 1 was last night at Scottrade Center is St Louis, MO. David Perron struck first to put the Blues on top 1-0. Unfortunately that would be all the scoring for St Louis. The Kings would go on to tack a goal late in the first to tie the game up at 1 a piece. LA would score again mid-way through the second to take a 2-1 lead. In the dwindling seconds of the third Dusitn Penner would bury the Blues with an empty net goal to make it 3-1 LA, that would be the final giving LA a 1-0 Series lead.

Blues Success Starts With Playoff Vets
St Louis has made some pretty key acquisitions over the 2011 off-season by acquiring guys like Jason Arnott, Jamie Langenbrunner, and Scott Nichol. Guys like these would prove to be help in the postseason and then hiring Ken Hitchcock in mid November would prove to be nothing short of pure success especially on home ice.

St Louis Blues Advance
The St Louis Blues advance for the first time since the 2002 season when they defeated the Chicago Blackhawks in 5 games (4-1). The Blues had dropped game 1 to San Jose in a 3-2 Double Overtime Loss on home ice, but would win out. By winning Games 2 & 5 at home and both Games 3 & 4 in San Jose. St Louis will have a couple of days to relax before finding out their next opponent whether its Los Angeles or Nashville.

Cam Atkinson Final Game In AHL?
Cam Atkinson has been a great piece to the Falcons this season and with April 14 being possibly his final game in a Falcons Uniform, he was the only Falcon elected to the 2012 AHL All Star Game, played a handful of games for the Columbus Blue Jackets including his first career NHL Hat Trick in a game against the Colorado Avalanche at the Pepsi Center in Denver, CO.
Legace Ends Career?
Falcons Goalie Manny Legace possibly ends his hockey career on the final game of the Springfield Falcons 2012 season. Manny was with the Falcons on their 1996-97 Calder Cup run, but would end up falling a round short of the Calder Cup Finals.
